To kick Autumn off, I decided to take off my grumpy socks, and make the most of the cold evenings, and teach myself some new things. First, starting with homemade soup! It might sound silly and very simple to do, but its something that I've never done before, and the season really is perfect to give it a go. Armed with a very large butternut squash, some turnips and my trusty Ready Steady Cook blender, I gave it a wholehearted attempt! As you can see from the picture above, it turned out quite well, but the anguish of blending turnips is an ordeal that I wont be doing again any time soon! Apart from the endless struggle with the stubborn turnips and squash in my hair, it was fun to make, and even better to eat! On a cold day, there is nothing better than a warming soup and a crusty bread roll.
I should end with saying that after some thought, Autumn isn't actually as bad as some may think. Yes, we have issues like icicles forming on your nose when out for too long, and the fact that some work days mean you never get to see the sunlight. But Autumn is also a wonderful thing, that offers us complete cosyness and contentment, hot chocolate with marshmallows, and the joy of jumping in leaf piles. So who am I to argue with the seasonal lovers?
