Hello world! So I finally decided to start up my very own crafty blog, to showcase some of the work I do through my Thriftbox. As well as posts dedicated to the talented people out there who are not only an inspiration, but who deserve the attention of others.
So… where to begin? Well to really kick the blog off, I should tell you a little about how Thriftbox came to be, and how i've ended up loving it more than I ever imagined.
Thriftbox was created in the summer of 2011, when I rediscovered my love of designing, creating and sewing. I've had a passion for textiles and handmade projects for many years now, but I had never given enough consideration into how much I actually enjoy conjuring up new ideas and bringing them to life. Until one of my close friends taught me how to create a very simple, as well as adorable, little sock monkey. I was fascinated how something that we use in everyday life could be recreated into a completely different, yet awesome, cuddly toy. I went away, and contemplated how to make the design my own, and after a few tweaks and attempts, came up with the finish products that you can see to your right!
I was then persuaded by a family member to try and sell some of the items that I had accumulated via an online shop. At first, I didn't see the need for this, as I thought "well who would want to buy my things?".But found that after I stumbled across the amazing site that is Etsy, that this may be the time to develop Thriftbox and perhaps gain some following!
Since then, I've spent the past few years trying to develop and create many different handmade items, from customised bunting to plushie monsters to keychains and moleksine notebooks.
This blog is to document my journey and development with Thriftbox. I hope you enjoy! :)
